So if you didn’t experience it live…this first TRAINING SESSION features a well-known CSI presenter – and one who challenges his audience and literally provides hands-on solutions that can be implemented immediately in each participant’s operation.
“Secure 7” focuses on the fact that every OS needs additional tweaking to bring it up to proper security. This session will show you changes to Windows 7 that will increase your security and bring you in compliance with many Federal regulations. Remember, default is not a setting in security!
Understanding the philosophy changes Microsoft implemented and knowing how to adjust to this new thought process can make your conversion to Windows 7 much less bumpy. Not just talking head stuff, real demonstrations that help you fully understand the changes in 7.
These changes are simple to implement so security can easily be done in small business and the enterprise. No additional purchases are required so businesses benefit from increased security without spending more $$$. Special attention will be given to currently available security templates so you can quickly secure small or large business. Learn now and save time/money in the future.
Attendees of this session will:
- Understand Microsoft's new security model and how to make it work for you
- Learn unique optional security setting to really secure Win 7 so you comply with the Federal security regulations (none of these settings are on by default, all are deep screened and all increase your security for free)
- Understand where the hidden folder system is that your files and programs are installed on and where the registry hides your setting. (Hint: they don't exist in XP!)
- Learn how group policy now lets you easily adjust your security
- See why templates rule, and much more!
Goals:
- State basic security conceptual changes for Microsoft in Windows 7
- Explain and demonstrate the "God Panel"

About “Securing 7’s” Presenter: Brad Smith, RN, MCNPS, CISSP, NSA-IAM became fascinated with computers in 1972 and hasn't burned out yet! He has been beta testing products since Windows NT and every OS since then, including Win 7. Brad prides himself as an equal opportunity OS hater and finds problems with all OS's, regardless of age, platform or kernel. His collection of OS's contains many examples of how not to write an OS. Some day he hopes to find an OS that he can take long stable walks together, while being green and having great security that doesn't need readjusting. He can only hope.
Brad is director of the Computer Institute of the Rockies which was recognized as the Microsoft Small Business Partner of the year in 2005. Brad is a Certified Small Business Specialist and works with many small, micro and nano rural and frontier businesses in outer Montana.
