CSI Security Awareness Peer Group FAQ

What is the CSI Security Awareness Peer Group?

The CSI Security Awareness Peer Group is a special-focus membership group devoted to the exchange of ideas for elevating employee awareness of good security behaviors at all levels within the organization. Most members are responsible for managing their awareness program.

When are meetings held?

CSI schedules three meetings during the year, hosted by attendee organizations or by CSI. Meetings are two days.

What is the structure of the meetings?

Meetings are held in one room, with attendees gathered in a conference-U arrangement. Discussion is friendly and informal, at the direction of the CSI facilitator. Presenters will often bring samples from their own programs, rather than using PowerPoint.

Are meals included?

There is a Welcome Reception the evening prior to the first day. On Day One there is optional group dinner. Attendees fund their own meal. Continental breakfast and luncheons are provided by the host.

Do I need to become a Peer Group Member to attend?

No, non-Peer Group Members are welcome to attend meetings; however, the per-meeting costs are higher.

What are the benefits of Peer Group Membership?

Awareness Peer Group Member organizations may attend two meetings during the calendar year, and send two attendees to their selected meetings. Members will be given first notice of all meetings and protected seating at all meetings. Throughout the year, CSI will facilitate communication among members for the exchange of questions, ideas and solutions.

Are there any other benefits?

Member organizations will receive one complimentary CSI personal membership for the year, which includes 12 issues of the Alert newsletter, gated access to archives, and significant savings on CSI conferences and seminars, transferable within the member organization. Members will receive discounts on future CSI awareness product offerings.

Are there any Membership requirements?

Membership presumes a willingness to host a meeting, whether this year or in the future.

I don't want a sales pitch, are there any vendor members?

Consultants and security service providers are not eligible to attend unless invited by the group.

How do I know that what I share will be kept confidential?

Everyone signs Non-Disclosure Agreements prior to each meeting.

What is discussed at Peer Group Meetings?

The meeting agenda is created by the attendees in a teleconference one month prior to meeting date.
Sample Agenda (pdf)

Attendees volunteer to share their experiences on appropriate topics. Facilitator schedules the flow of topics and keeps the meeting moving and on target.

Who is currently in the Peer Group?

There are currently 30 active Peer Group member organizations. Qualified inquiries (prospective members) may request the roster of member organizations by emailing Pam Salaway at pam.salaway@ubm.com.

How much does the Peer Group cost?

Annual membership in the CSI Awareness Peer Group is $3,000 per year and allows your choice of any two meetings; a second person from the member organization may attend the same two meetings at no additional cost.

If membership is not an option, meeting attendance is possible on a "single meeting" basis at $1,895 per person. A second person from the same company may attend at $745.

When will the meetings be held this year?

The next meeting will be held in Baltimore, MD on April 6-7, 2011 hosted by T. Rowe Price.
